We Are the Glory of God
Living a spiritual life is living a life in which our spirits and the Spirit of God bear a joint witness that we belong to God as God's beloved children, (see Romans 8:16). This witness involves every aspect of our lives. Paul says: "Whatever you eat, then, or drink, and whatever else you do, do it all for the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31).
And we are the glory of God when we give full visibility to the freedom of the children of God.
When we live in communion with God's Spirit, we can only be witnesses, because wherever we go and whomever we meet, God's Spirit will manifest itself through us. (Noouwen W)

Wounds Becoming Signs of Glory
The resurrection of Jesus is the basis of our faith in the resurrection of our bodies. Often we hear the suggestion that our bodies are the prisons of our souls and that the spiritual life is the way out of these prisons. But by our faith in the resurrection of the body we proclaim that the spiritual life and the life in the body cannot be separated. Our bodies, as Paul says, are temples of the Holy Spirit (see 1 Corinthians 6:19) and, therefore, sacred. The resurrection of the body means that what we have lived in the body will not go to waste but will be lifted in our eternal life with God. As Christ bears the marks of his suffering in his risen body, our bodies in the resurrection will bear the marks of our suffering. Our wounds will become signs of glory in the resurrection.

Right Living and Right Speaking
To be a witness for God is to be a living sign of God's presence in the world. What we live is more important than what we say, because the right way of living always leads to the right way of speaking. When we forgive our neighbours from our hearts, our hearts will speak forgiving words. When we are grateful, we will speak grateful words, and when we are hopeful and joyful, we will speak hopeful and joyful words.
When our words come too soon and we are not yet living what we are saying, we easily give double messages. Giving double messages - one with our words and another with our actions - makes us hypocrites. May our lives give us the right words and may our words lead us to the right life. (Nouwen W)

Anh em

Ai là người anh em của đám dân đang đói? Là Giêsu, đã hoá bánh ra nhiều cho họ ăn. Là người đã sẵng sàng hy sinh năm chiếc bánh và hai con cá, đóng góp vào phép lạ...
Còn tôi, tôi có phải là anh em của họ?

Who Is My Neighbour?
"Love your neighbour as yourself" the Gospel says (Matthew 22:38). But who is my neighbor? We often respond to that question by saying: "My neighbours are all the people I am living with on this earth, especially the sick, the hungry, the dying, and all who are in need." But this is not what Jesus says.
When Jesus tells the story of the good Samaritan (see Luke 10:29-37) to answer the question "Who is my neighbour?" he ends the by asking: "Which, ... do you think, proved himself a neighbor to the man who fell into the bandits' hands?" The neighbour, Jesus makes clear, is not the poor man laying on the side of the street, stripped, beaten, and half dead, but the Samaritan who crossed the road, "bandaged his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them, ... lifted him onto his own mount and took him to an inn and looked after him." My neighbour is the one who crosses the road for me! (Nouwen W)

Kỷ nguyên hoà bình

Bấy giờ sói sẽ ở với chiên con,

Mùa Vọng đi liền với niềm khao khát một kỷ nguyên hoà bình, an bình, hạnh phúc. Đức Kitô mang đến ơn bình an sâu sắc, bất chấp bất ổn bên ngoài: "Thầy để lại bình an cho anh em, Thầy ban cho anh em bình an của Thầy. Thầy ban cho anh em không như thế gian ban tặng. Lòng anh em đừng xao xuyến cũng đừng sợ hãi." (Ga 14,27)

Jesus Is a Peacemaker
Jesus, the Blessed Child of the Father, is a peacemaker. His peace doesn't mean only absence of war. It is not simply harmony or equilibrium. His peace is the fullness of well-being, gratuitously given by God. Jesus says, "Peace I leave to you, my own peace I give you, a peace which the world cannot give, this is my gift to you" (John 14:27).
Peace is Shalom --- well-being of mind, heart, and body, individually and communally. It can exist in the midst of a war-torn world, even in the midst of unresolved problems and increasing human conflicts. Jesus made that peace by giving his life for his brothers and sisters. This is no easy peace, but it is everlasting and it comes from God. Are we willing to give our lives in the service of peace? (Nouwen W)

Vọng

Mùa Vọng là mùa của hân hoan mong đợi với hai tâm tình: vừa là mùa chuẩn bị mừng lễ trọng Giáng sinh, lễ kính nhớ Con Thiên Chúa đến lần thứ nhất với loài người, vừa hướng lòng trông đợi Chúa Kitô đến lần thứ hai trong ngày quang lâm. Giữa hai tâm tình đó, còn có một tâm tình thứ ba là sống tốt giây phút hiện tại với thái độ tỉnh thức và sẵn sàng.

If we do not wait patiently in expectation for God's coming in glory, we start wandering around, going from one little sensation to another. Our lives get stuffed with newspaper items, television stories, and gossip. Then our minds lose the discipline of discerning between what leads us closer to God and what doesn't, and our hearts gradually lose their spiritual sensitivity.
Without waiting for the second coming of Christ, we will stagnate quickly and become tempted to indulge in whatever gives us a moment of pleasure. When Paul asks us to wake from sleep, he says: "Let us live decently, as in the light of day; with no orgies or drunkenness, no promiscuity or licentiousness, and no wrangling or jealousy. Let your armour be the Lord Jesus Christ, and stop worrying about how your disordered natural inclinations may be fulfilled" (Romans 13:13-14). When we have the Lord to look forward to, we can already experience him in the waiting. (Nouwen W)

Nặng nề

Anh em phải đề phòng, chớ để lòng mình ra nặng nề (Lc 21,34)

Có những lúc tâm hồn trĩu nặng, thân xác uể oải, không muốn làm gì nữa. Nặng hơn, có thể là bị stress, nguy cơ dẫn đến trầm cảm, đột quỵ. Nặng nề về thân xác và tâm hồn nguy hiểm như thế, nặng nề về linh hồn còn nguy hiểm hơn nữa. Giống như bị ma quỷ đè xuống, đầu óc không thể ngẩng lên để nhìn Chúa, chỉ còn cúi xuống với tội lỗi.

Điều làm cho linh hồn ra nặng nề là chè chén say sưa và lo lắng sự đời. Chè chén say sưa là hình ảnh tượng trưng cho sự ham khoái lạc, chạy theo chủ nghĩa hưởng thụ. Lo lắng sự đời: hình ảnh diễn tả chủ nghĩa thực dụng, mải mê tìm kiếm sự đời bất chấp mọi thủ đoạn. Tất cả sẽ làm cho linh hồn ra nặng nề, tê liệt, không còn khả năng tránh thoát những cạm bẫy của ma quỷ nữa. Do đó, cần phải tránh xa hai chủ nghĩa hưởng thụ và thực dụng này.

Những biện pháp tích cực giúp cho hồn thanh thoát, nhẹ nhàng là tỉnh thức và cầu nguyện. Tỉnh thức là nhạy bén, nhạy cảm, nhanh nhạy phân định chính xác nhờ thường xuyên suy niệm Lời Chúa. Cầu nguyện là hướng lòng thường xuyên lên Chúa. Tỉnh thức và cầu nguyện sẽ chắp cánh cho linh hồn bay lên trong bầu trời ân sủng của Chúa.
