Can đảm

"Giữa thế gian, các con sẽ phải đau khổ, nhưng hãy can đảm lên, Thầy đã thắng thế gian." (Ga 16,33)

Không phải tự con có khả năng chọn mọi sự cho con ở giữa trần gian này,
mà là chính Chúa đã lựa chọn cho con.

Chính Ngài lựa chọn hoàn cảnh sống cho con,
và cho con chào đời thực thi sứ vụ
trong một bối cảnh trần gian như thế.


Con đường thi hành sự vụ đầy gian truân
nhưng can đảm lên, "Thầy đã thắng thế gian."


Being Sent Into the World

Each of us has a mission in life. Jesus prays to his Father for his followers, saying: "As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world" (John 17:18).

We seldom realise fully that we are sent to fulfill God-given tasks. We act as if we have to choose how, where, and with whom to live. We act as if we were simply plopped down in creation and have to decide how to entertain ourselves until we die. But we were sent into the world by God, just as Jesus was. Once we start living our lives with that conviction, we will soon know what we were sent to do.

Fulfilling a Mission

When we live our lives as missions, we become aware that there is a home from where we are sent and to where we have to return. We start thinking about ourselves as people who are in a faraway country to bring a message or work on a project, but only for a certain amount of time. When the message has been delivered and the project is finished, we want to return home to give an account of our mission and to rest from our labours.

One of the most important spiritual disciplines is to develop the knowledge that the years of our lives are years "on a mission." (Nouwen)

Kiên nhẫn & can đảm

"Anh em sẽ lo buồn, nhưng nỗi buồn của anh em sẽ trở thành niềm vui."

Nỗi lo nỗi buồn của những người miệt mài với bổn phận, với sứ mạng, với những sự kiện mà mình tổ chức. Có những cái mình đạt được, có những cái chưa thành tựu.

Đặc biệt trong lãnh vực tông đồ, rất nỗ lực, nhưng con số tín hữu khôn thấy tăng lên. ĐGH chia sẻ: loan báo Tin Mừng không phải là kết nạp vào đạo:

"When the Church loses this apostolic courage, she becomes a stalled Church, a tidy Church a nice, a Church that is nice to look at, but that is without fertility, because she has lost the courage to go to the outskirts, where there are many people who are victims of idolatry, worldliness of weak thought, [of] so many things. Let us today ask St Paul to give us this apostolic courage, this spiritual fervor, so that we might be confident. ‘But Father,’ [you might say], ‘we might make mistakes…’ ... ‘[Well, what of it,’ I might respond], ‘Get on with you: if you make a mistake, you get up and go forward: that is the way. Those who do not walk in order not to err, make a the more serious mistake."

Can đảm

"Các con không thuộc về thế gian, vì chính Thầy đã chọn các con khỏi thế gian, nên thế gian ghét các con." (Ga 15,19)

Câu nói trên diễn tả một cuộc chiến giữa bóng tối và ánh sáng.
Thế gian được Gioan nhắc đến ở đây là những cá nhân hay tập thể đã bị thế lực của bóng tối chiếm lĩnh.
Thế gian đây có thể là chính bản thân tôi
khi tôi để bóng tối chiếm đóng hồn mình.
Cần phải có đủ can đảm
để đón nhận ánh sáng và thuộc về ánh sáng
trong một cuộc chiến chống lại bóng tối
bằng cách vượt thoát khỏi cạm bẫy của bóng tối
và xua tan bóng tối
với Lời Chúa, với tình yêu và sự thật
chứ không phải với bạo lực và hận thù.

Sự can đảm này được ĐGH nhắc đến:


The Pope recalled how we read in the Bible that Abraham and Moses have the courage to "negotiate with the Lord."
A courage "in favor of others, in favor of the Church" which we also need today:
"When the Church loses courage, the Church enters into a ‘lukewarm’ atmosphere.
The lukewarm, lukewarm Christians, without courage ... that hurts the Church so much, because this tepid atmosphere draws you inside, and problems arise among us; we no longer have the horizon, or courage to pray towards heaven, or the courage to proclaim the Gospel.
We are lukewarm ... We have the courage to get involved in our small things in our jealousies, our envy, our careerism, in selfishly going forward ... In all these things, but this is not good for the Church: the Church must be courageous! We all have to be courageous in prayer, in challenging Jesus!".

Writing to Save the Day

Writing can be a true spiritual discipline. Writing can help us to concentrate, to get in touch with the deeper stirrings of our hearts, to clarify our minds, to process confusing emotions, to reflect on our experiences, to give artistic expression to what we are living, and to store significant events in our memories. Writing can also be good for others who might read what we write.

Quite often a difficult, painful, or frustrating day can be "redeemed" by writing about it. By writing we can claim what we have lived and thus integrate it more fully into our journeys. Then writing can become lifesaving for us and sometimes for others too. (Nouwen Meditation)
