The Pope said, on Jesus’ entry in Jerusalem he was received with great joy as people waved their palms and olive branches. He awakened great hopes, especially in the hearts of the simple, the humble, the poor, the forgotten, those who do not matter in the eyes of the world.

Sức mạnh ẩn giấu trong những yếu đuối.

Not Breaking the Bruised Reeds

Some of us tend to do away with things that are slightly damaged. Instead of repairing them we say: "Well, I don't have time to fix it, I might as well throw it in the garbage can and buy a new one."

Often we also treat people this way. We say: "Well, he has a problem with drinking; well, she is quite depressed; well, they have mismanaged their business...we'd better not take the risk of working with them."

When we dismiss people out of hand because of their apparent woundedness, we stunt their lives by ignoring their gifts, which are often buried in their wounds.

We all are bruised reeds, whether our bruises are visible or not.

The compassionate life is the life in which we believe that strength is hidden in weakness and that true community is a fellowship of the weak. (Nouwen G)

Our Lives, Sowing Times

Our short lives on earth are sowing time. If there were no resurrection of the dead, everything we live on earth would come to nothing. How can we believe in a God who loves us unconditionally if all the joys and pains of our lives are in vain, vanishing in the earth with our mortal flesh and bones? Because God loves us unconditionally, from eternity to eternity, God cannot allow our bodies - the same as that in which Jesus, his Son and our savior, appeared to us - to be lost in final destruction.

No, life on earth is the time when the seeds of the risen body are planted. Paul says: "What is sown is perishable, but what is raised is imperishable; what is sown is contemptible but what is raised is glorious; what is sown is weak, but what is raised is powerful; what is sown is a natural body, and what is raised is a spiritual body" (1 Corinthians 15:42-44). This wonderful knowledge that nothing we live in our bodies is lived in vain holds a call for us to live every moment as a seed of eternity.

Chúa tìm cách giúp cho dân Do Thái nhận ra Chúa là ai, để họ cũng nhận ra họ là ai. Ngài là Con Một Chúa Cha, luôn hiệp nhất với Cha: "Dầu các ngươi không muốn tin Ta, cũng hãy tin vào các việc đó, để các ngươi biết và tin rằng: Cha ở trong Ta, và Ta ở trong Cha." Và Ngài cũng muốn ta nên một với Ngài, để được như thế, được ở trong Cha.

Xin cho con nhận ra niềm hạnh phúc được ở trong Cha, khi nên một với Giêsu.

Claiming the Sacredness of Our Being

Are we friends with ourselves? Do we love who we are? These are important questions because we cannot develop good friendships with others unless we have befriended ourselves. How then do we befriend ourselves?

We have to start by acknowledging the truth of ourselves. We are beautiful but also limited, rich but also poor, generous but also worried about our security.

Yet beyond all that we are people with souls, sparks of the divine. To acknowledge the truth of ourselves is to claim the sacredness of our being, without fully understanding it. Our deepest being escapes our own mental or emotional grasp. But when we trust that our souls are embraced by a loving God, we can befriend ourselves and reach out to others in loving relationships.

A Still Place in the Market

"Be still and acknowledge that I am God" (Psalm 46:10).
These are words to take with us in our busy lives.
We may think about stillness in contrast to our noisy world.
But perhaps we can go further and keep an inner stillness even while we carry on business, teach, work in construction, make music, or organise meetings.

It is important to keep a still place in the "marketplace."
This still place is where God can dwell and speak to us.
It also is the place from where we can speak in a healing way to all the people we meet in our busy days.
Without that still space we start spinning.
We become driven people, running all over the place without much direction.
But with that stillness God can be our gentle guide in everything we think, say, or do.

"Nếu Chúa Con giải thoát các ngươi, thì các ngươi sẽ được tự do thực sự." (Ga 8,36)

Chúa Con đến giải thoát tôi bằng chính Lời yêu thương của Ngài. Lời này diễn tả qua đôi môi, qua cuộc sống, qua cái chết, và qua chính sự hiện diện tuy vô hình nhưng rất sống động của Ngài nơi tôi.

Xin cho con biết nói lời yêu thương như thế để góp phần làm cho anh em con được tự do thanh thoát trong niềm vui. Lời yêu thương được thể hiện trong việc noi gương Thánh Giuse là Đấng Bảo vệ, bảo vệ những người anh em nhỏ bé của mình.

Words That Feed Us

When we talk to one another, we often talk about what happened, what we are doing, or what we plan to do. Often we say, "What's up?" and we encourage one another to share the details of our daily lives. But often we want to hear something else. We want to hear, "I've been thinking of you today," or "I missed you," or "I wish you were here," or "I really love you." It is not always easy to say these words, but such words can deepen our bonds with one another.

Telling someone "I love you" in whatever way is always delivering good news. Nobody will respond by saying, "Well, I knew that already, you don't have to say it again"! Words of love and affirmation are like bread. We need them each day, over and over. They keep us alive inside. (Nouwen G)
